Moab Road Bike Camp: Conquer Utah's Red Rock Classics
Ride Your Road Bike in the Mecca of Mountain Biking!
While Moab is famous for its legendary trails, our roads are just as epic. This is the premier Moab Road Bike Camp, designed to challenge your early season fitness and reward you with world-class scenery.
We’ll base out of one of our favorite downtown hotels, dine at our favorite restaurants and, most importantly, take you on our favorite road rides. Springtime in Moab is truly breathtaking: the snowcapped La Sal Mountains frame our amazing red rock landscape, and down in the valley the flowers and fruit trees are blooming everywhere. Our routes will take you on some of the most amazing roads anywhere, challenging your legs and getting some much-needed sunshine on your winter coat.
With passionate local guides who’ve made Moab their home, you’ll explore our favorite road-biking routes as they take care of every detail—keeping your days running smoother than your new ceramic bearings. This trip will prioritize the joy of riding and earning quality early season miles. There won’t be any scheduled “workouts” or night lectures about intervals and wattage. Don’t worry though, the soreness in your legs and the hunger at the end of the day will prove you have met your goals. We’ll make sure of that.
Advanced Challenge, Iconic Roads & Seamless Comfort
This Moab Road Bike Camp is tailored for advanced cyclists who seek high-mileage training combined with the luxury of a fully supported lodge tour:
Conquer the La Sal Loop: Experience a ride consistently ranked in the Top Ten in the World—the La Sal Mountain Loop Road—which provides a challenging desert-to-alpine traverse with 5,500 feet of climbing.
Iconic Climbs & Classics: Master other legendary routes like the sustained ascent to Dead Horse State Park (4,000 feet of gain) and the breathtaking Upper Colorado River Scenic Byway.
High-Mileage Fitness Focus: Designed as an early season fitness camp, the tour focuses on sustained daily mileage (40–70 miles) and cumulative elevation gain (up to 5,500 feet), pushing your limits without the rigidity of formal coaching.
Fully Supported & Downtown Base: Enjoy comfortable accommodations in a favorite downtown hotel and dine at local restaurants, ensuring maximum recovery and local flavor after challenging days in the saddle.
-DAY-BY-DAY
Itinerary
We start the Moab Road Camp on Scenic Road 279 (the Potash Road), riding next to the Colorado River.
This is the perfect, relatively flat warm-up, passing under the towering cliffs of the famous Wall Street climbing area and viewing accessible Native American art.
40 miles / 1,700 feet
Today features an out-and-back classic: the climb up Scenic Road 313 to Dead Horse State Park.
We utilize the 8-mile Moab Canyon bike path past Arches National Park before starting the sustained climb to the park’s famous overlook. The return ride is exhilarating!
70 miles / 4,000 feet
We cycle the spectacular “River Road” (Upper Colorado River Scenic Byway), paralleling the river through a narrow gorge.
The route widens past Castle and Professor valleys, offering grand views of the red rock spires of the Fisher Towers set against the snow-covered La Sal Mountains.
65 miles / 2,800 feet
Bring your “A” game for the La Sal Mountain Loop Road, a modern classic and often-cited world-top-ten ride.
This grueling but rewarding route takes you from the desert floor to the high mountains and back again, delivering the ultimate test of early season fitness.
63 miles / 5,500 feet
Our final “lunchtime” ride explores Moab’s less-traveled routes, figure-eighting up Spanish Valley past Ken’s Lake and climbing up to the quaint Pack Creek Ranch.
The cruise back down passes agricultural areas, offering a perfect, relaxed cap to an incredible week of riding.
47 miles / 4,000 feet
